University of Missouri The purpose of this article is to review the literature related to men who pursue nontraditional career choices such as gender atypical occupations outside the home or being stay-at-home fathers. Key foundational findings and current studies that provide information about what factors influence mens pursuit of nontraditional careers both in the paid labor market and as stay-at-home-fathers, as well as their experience of these important life choices, are reviewed. We then turn to specific recommendations from the literature which can inform the work of future researchers and career counselors in this area.
